Saudi Mining Weekly Report: Production Rebounds as National Gypsum Trading Is Suspended

Saudi Arabia’s mining sector recorded a notable monthly rebound in production, while the latest

Saudi Arabia’s mining sector recorded a notable monthly rebound in production, while the latest economic data highlighted the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

In the capital market, National Gypsum Company was the only monitored company to record a material development during the week, following the suspension of trading in its shares due to delayed financial disclosures.

Saudi Mining and Quarrying Activity Rises 19%

Saudi Arabia’s mining and quarrying activity increased by 19% month-on-month in July 2026, according to preliminary data released by the General Authority for Statistics.

The increase helped drive a 10.4% monthly rise in the Kingdom’s overall Industrial Production Index.

Manufacturing activity also increased by 1.3% compared with June, supported by a 6.5% rise in the production of coke and refined petroleum products.

Despite the strong monthly recovery, mining and quarrying activity remained 10.9% lower than in July 2025. Saudi Arabia’s overall Industrial Production Index also declined by 8.1% year-on-year.

The figures indicate a sharp short-term recovery in activity, although production remained below the levels recorded during the same period last year.

Mining and Quarrying GDP Reaches SAR 183 Billion

Saudi Arabia’s real GDP from mining and quarrying reached approximately SAR183 billion in the second quarter of 2026, according to the latest national accounts data.

Nominal GDP generated by mining and quarrying stood at approximately SAR249.1 billion, while the seasonally adjusted real value reached around SAR187.9 billion.

The figures were released as Saudi Arabia’s overall real GDP contracted by 4.7% year-on-year during the quarter, primarily due to a 24.8% decline in oil activities. Non-oil and government activities each recorded growth of 0.9%.

The official mining and quarrying classification includes crude oil and natural gas extraction. Therefore, the decline should not be interpreted as a direct measure of metallic and non-metallic mining performance alone.

Saudi Exchange Suspends Trading in National Gypsum Shares

Saudi Exchange suspended trading in National Gypsum Company’s shares beginning on 10 September 2026.

The decision followed the company’s failure to publish its interim financial statements for the six-month period ended 30 June 2026 within the required regulatory deadline.

Trading will remain suspended until National Gypsum publishes the outstanding financial statements.

National Gypsum was the only company on Mining Saudi Arabia’s monitoring list to record a material corporate or regulatory development during the reporting period.

Weekly Takeaway

The latest data presents a mixed picture for Saudi Arabia’s mining and quarrying sector.

The 19% monthly increase signals a strong rebound in activity, supporting wider growth in industrial production. However, the annual decline shows that output remained below the levels recorded in July 2025.

Meanwhile, the suspension of National Gypsum shares highlights the importance of regulatory compliance and timely financial disclosure among listed mineral-related companies.

No other verified announcements involving new mining licenses, exploration results, investments, production expansions, financing agreements, or major projects were recorded between 6 and 12 September among the companies monitored by Mining Saudi Arabia.
